Firpo's , the legendary European restaurants in Calcutta and Bombay and once considered the best on this side of the Suez was the most fashionable haunt of the then who's who. Firpo, Peliti's most famous disciple was known for the best food and music scene in Calcutta. Only someone who had a status tag were permitted to dine. Maharani Vijayraje Scindia in her autobiography reminisces of her first meeting with Maharaja of Gwalior and her future husband George Jiwajirao Scindia at Firpo's in Bombay in the presence of her maternal uncle and aunt. Firpo's introduced the modern fashionable classic dining scenario in India. They never had a a la carte menu and was exclusively buffet.
